30th September 2007 - 2007 National Finals of Great Britain, Harrogate.
The band have learned the test piece, 'Roman Tryptich' by Leigh Baker, a 13 minute tribute to all the great movies about the Romans. The coach left Tamworth at 18:00 on Friday for our weekend away for relaxation, socialising, Rafal's Birthday and Oh! the National finals.
Sunday 8:30 I drew 11, perfect mid draw, just after the adjudicators break, no rush for the players to be ready, nice steady build up for the day ahead. Sometime around 13:00 the playing was underway and after the 13 minutes of the performance of a lifetime it was over, 28 players leaving the stage, grinning from ear to ear, exhausted but happy. 16:20 the green light goes on the wait is over 20 qualifying bands from the 200 who started out in March had finished the piece and the adjudicators had made a decision. The eternal countdown of the top 6 bands, 6th no, 5th no, 4th no, 3rd no, by god the nerves are starting now, its top 2 or nowhere, "2nd place goes to the band that played......11, Amington", Roaaarrrrrrr, we'd done it 2nd best in the country, FANTASTIC, emulating the players from 22 years earlier who made 2nd place as well.

19th August - Castle Grounds, Tamworth
With the promise of possibly the best day for the weather in weeks, the band assembled in a modicum of sunshine in the Bandstand, with a nice crowd forming the scene was set for a nice Sunday in the park. However, nature had other ideas to prove the weathermen wrong, within 15 min's a fine drizzle started. The crowd, undeterred, just moved to the shelter of the nearest trees, but still Nature wanted these people to move somewhere else and the rain came and got heavier and heavier, with the eventual outcome of having to abandon the concert on the advice of the Borough Council official. Dejected we all retreated to dryer conditions and hoped the summer rains would stop. Thank you to all those that came to see us, lets hope for a finer day next year.

The draw was made at 9:00, with the band that draws 1 playing at 10:00, we drew 4 and went on at about 10:50 and the band played the test piece beautifully. Then the long wait 17:50ish for the words, "In third place with 178 points, the band that played 4, Amington". Well done the guys in the band, start getting ready for September 30th.
