Ben Hewlett-Davies - Bass Trombone & Assistant Musical Director


10993447 10153004934281210 1338460924545695905 nBen Hewlett-Davies was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in 1991 and now lives in Tamworth.


He is a keen musician and plays the Bass Trombone, Percussion and Piano. Ben is a committed brass bander and has played with bands from all over the Midlands.

During his final years of school Ben was awarded a scholarship to study Bass Trombone at Birmingham Conservatoire. There he studied Bass Trombone, Bass Sackbut and Contrabass Trombone under the instruction of Robert Hughes FRSM, David Vines, Chris Houlding and Susan Addison. He graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Music.

Elsewhere, Ben has played in many amateur and semi-professional orchestras, wind bands and ensembles, most notably, The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Portsmouth (Royal Band) and  spent 2 years as the conductor of the Ratby Co-operative Training Band. Ben developed his conducting skills further after taking over the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band for a concert in the spring of 2015. He currently holds positions as Assistant Musical Director for both Amington and Coventry Festival Brass Bands.

In his spare time, Ben plays regularly with the Bierhoff Oom Pah Band, enjoys arranging for different ensembles and looking after his 2 year old son, Noah.

Ben currently works building prototype cars for Jaguar Land Rover and hopes to persue a career within the company.
