Robert Godfrey - Second Baritone / Chairman

Bob began his playing career at the age of eight in 1938 with the Hugglescote and Ellistown Silver Band, and subsequently joined the Snibston Colliery Band in Coalville. After then moving the Great Yarmouth in 1953 Bob helped to form a new band called Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Silver Band. Bob later moved to Grantham and joined the Ruston and Hornsby Band and subsequently became their conductor for a period of a year when their then Musical Director reverted to playing. Bob then moved to Sheffield where he played Tuba with the Quaker Southerland band for several years. On moving to Lancashire bobs playing career was interrupted for several years until he moved to Tamworth. 

Bob moved to Tamworth in 1987 and joined Amington B Band in 1989, and after a few months was invited to join the Amington A Band on BB Flat Tuba. The band was at that point a second section band, and soon progressed to the first section. Unfortunately in 1994 a loss of players relegated the band back to the second section. Health reasons meant that bob stopped playing tuba and moved to playing baritone, where is remains to this day.

Bob re-joined the band committee in 2005 when he was invited to take up the position of Band Chairman, with the principal role of sourcing funding from organisations and private donors.  In 2016 Bob decided it was time to retire from the demanding Chairman's position and pass the baton on.  Bob is now the band's President!
